Book Review: A Court of Frost and Starlight

Friday, 8/30/24

This past week, I started my last semester of college! It’s been busy to say the least. I’m adjusting to my new schedule of commuting, working, and taking classes, so I’m taking this long weekend to relax, unwind, and read some more 🙂

I started this book on my drive back from vacation and have been reading it here and there for the past two weeks. It’s a pretty short one and it’s the fourth book in the ACOTAR series, so… more faeries!

People tend to see this book as book 3.5 of the series, just because it’s so short compared to the others and it’s more of a winter/holiday-themed story that details a short period of time.

So far, the group has been getting ready for Winter Solstice, decorating for the holiday, buying presents for each other, and recovering from the war that took place in the last book.

It’s less action-packed than the other books in the series, but it’s a nice break from all of the hardship.

I only have about 100 pages left, so I should be finished by tonight or tomorrow!

Saturday, 8/31 — End of Book

I stayed up late last night to finish the last 80 or so pages of this book. I overall enjoyed, but it definitely wasn’t as entertaining as the other books. I feel like this one was a little pause/break from all of the craziness before the big last book.

*Spoilers!*

We’re getting a tiny bit more from Feyre’s sisters and their possible love interests in this book. I need more from Nesta and Cassian, and luckily, I think that should be coming up in the next book. Also, Elain and Azriel seem to be getting closer? So, we’ll see what happens with that.

Feyre has now opened an art studio. For this entire series, I’ve been confused on why the painting storyline has persisted. In random scenes, Feyre will see something, envision it being painted, and choose a title for it. It hasn’t seemed really relevant to me or to the actual story, but the hobby will probably make it to the last book at this point.

Feyre’s birthday wish was to have a child with Rhys, so I’m eager to see if that comes to fruition in the next/last book. Also, since the next book is the last (for now), I’m assuming it’ll be quite action-packed, probably fighting more faerie wars and such. Will Feyre be fighting while pregnant with a faerie baby? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m debating on whether I want to start the last book now, or if I want to wait a little bit so I can really enjoy it. It’s about 750 pages, and I want to be able to take the time to read it all the way through without taking week-long breaks. With classes starting up, that might be a little difficult, so I might have to wait until a holiday break.

But anyway, overall enjoyable read, just not that much going on.

Onto the next: “A Court of Silver Flames”
