Book Review: Throne of Glass

So… here we are.

The “Throne of Glass” series has been on the long TBR list in my head for a little while now. I loved reading ACOTAR, so I was eager to see what this separate series was all about. I went into it with little to no information on the series other than all of the videos I’ve seen of people obsessing over the books. But, I never really knew what the story was about.

This book centers around three characters: Celeana, Chaol, and Dorian. Celeana is an infamous assassin; Chaol is the captain of the royal guard; Dorian is the crown prince. Dorian selects Celeana as his tribute to enter a competition to become the King’s Champion. Celeana has to complete different tests to advance in the competition, which ends in a final duel with the last four tributes.

Celeana agrees to enter this competition because her freedom is on the line. She worked as a slave in the mines the year before Dorian requested her, and she knows she won’t survive being back there.

Celeana is constantly surrounded by guards and everyone who knows her true identity fears her. However, as the book develops, she befriends both Chaol and Dorian, as well as a princess who comes to visit from another land. This princess, Princess Nehemia, becomes Celeana’s close confidant, and becomes a big part of her survival throughout the book, thanks to a few secrets she keeps close to her chest.

To be honest, I did go into this book thinking it was going to have some romance in it, like ACOTAR. However, that’s not really the case. There is SOME… but, nothing compared to the past books I’ve read from Ms. Maas. This initially deterred me from the book, but once I got into it, the storyline kept me hooked and wanting to know what happened next.

Overall, the book itself was in the 3.5 star range, and that 0.5 was added because of the last 60ish pages of the book. But, I am eager to start the next one, “Crown of Midnight”. I have a handful of books checked out from the library, so I’m determined to finish those before I move forward with the series. But!!! Who knows? Maybe I’ll get tired of waiting.

That’s it for now! Ciao ciao ciao!
