The Assassin’s Blade is the third published book in Sarah J. Maas’ “Throne of Glass” series. I mention this because a lot of readers debate on whether TOG readers should read this one first, since it’s a prequel. However, I decided to read in publication order, since that’s how Maas originally put it out. This seemed like a safe bet.
This book is separated into 5 different sections:
- The Assassin and the Pirate Lord
- The Assassin and the Healer
- The Assassin and the Desert
- The Assassin and the Underworld
- The Assassin and the Empire
Each of these sections focuses on a different time and place in Celeana’s life and some of the missions she goes on as she works under Arobynn, who deems himself the King of Assassins. Also, if anyone needs a refresher, Celeana is a young girl who is one of the most notorious assassins in her world. Since these sections/stories go in chronological order, the book was pretty easy to follow. However, by the fourth story, I was ready to be back in the “current” timeline of the first two books. I caught myself a few times missing those storylines and characters like Chaol and Dorian.
This book honestly gave some good insight on how Celeana actually thinks, and it made me sympathize with her a lot more than I had been doing in the first two books. Overall, this was a decent read, but I just really missed the storyline and characters from the first two books. Luckily, I’ll be reunited with them very soon…
Until next time,
Julianne ❤
